The Show's History
Fifty years ago, a small yet ambitious idea was born at Marion Avenue Baptist Church: to share the Christmas story with the community in a fresh and immersive way. What began in 1974 as a simple play has since grown into a large-scale production, drawing thousands of attendees each year. With live animals, special effects, and a focus on bringing the Bible to life, the Live Animal Christmas Show has become one of Southeast Iowa’s most treasured holiday traditions.
Over the years, the show has evolved to include stunning theatrical elements, heartwarming music, and unforgettable scenes. Highlights like Mary riding a donkey down the aisle, shepherds gathering under a starry sky, and angels appearing in the heavens have left audiences in awe. This 50th-anniversary production is a testament to the dedication of countless volunteers and the unwavering message of hope in Christ.
